HGVs - DVLA statistics reveal hidden danger
The People newspaper reports on statistics published by the DVLA. The figures are from 2009.
Almost 1400 bus and lorry drivers were been banned from driving for drinking or taking drugs.
Truck crashes killed 268 people in a single year.
The bans cover 889 cases of drink-driving and 504 drug offences.
Experts warn the figures for the past three years could be the tip of the iceberg because truckers are not forced to have regular medical checks until they are 45.
